I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…. Pet Products SELL!
On November 5, 2013, we posted a blog on Growing Clothing Trends, which listed the pet apparel industry as a growing profit market. “According to the American Pet Product Manufacturers association, more than 50 million dollars in sales were from pet products last year” (Manic Monday 11-5-2013 post). Pet owners are becoming more invested in dog clothes and the “designer dog” look.
For today’s post I decided to print my own personalized dog tee, and who better to use than our very own office mascot –
Sassy the pug!
As you can clearly see…. Sassy loves to play dress up. She’s chubby, she snores and she’s so ugly she’s cute.
Overall she was the perfect model! 😉
The hardest part of this assignment was figuring out the right size. This pudgy little pug is about 22-23 pounds. Most dog clothing items are sized based on weight. To be safe we ordered a couple different sizes; Medium (11-23 lbs) and Large (24-45 lbs). Imagine my surprise when the Large was still a bit too tight for our beloved office dog.
Clearly, the size descriptions were misleading, but I had promised our followers a dog clothing demo and I was determined to follow through! The print was done just before Thanksgiving, so I decided to go with a holiday theme.
It’s best to make sure your image has a transparent background unless you want a color border around your image/text. The OmniPrint DirectRip software allows me to set the placement of my image on the t shirt and adjust the size as needed. I recommend also using a measuring tape to make sure the image fits in the printable space.
The Chest Platen (also known as the “Baby Platen”) was used to mount Sassy’s t shirt and started the print.
And there’s Sassy struttin’ her stuff in her new t shirt. Though between you and me, I don’t think she needs any more leftovers. 😉
For fun, I also printed on the Medium-sized doggy t shirt to create a personalized stuffed animal t shirt. A very special little boy I know has a stuffed dog he calls “Pluto” that he sleeps with every night. The wonderful thing about having the FreeJet Direct To Garment printer at your disposal is you can create personalized items like this! Sometimes it’s the little things that mean so much…
With the holidays coming up it’s gifts ideas like these that could really get your customers excited. Emphasize the personalization of your product and the sentimental value of giving a completely unique gift to the receiver.
Do you have any of your own ideas you’d like to share, or something you’d like us to print in an upcoming Whimsical Wednesday blog? Please post it in the comment section below!
Sincerely,
OmniPrint International
