It’s that time of year again… the time where the masses join in on the hustle and bustle in a rush to get everything done before the New Year. Whether you celebrate the holidays or not, there’s no denying the effect they have on your business during the months of November through January. For some, December is the most profitable month of the year, but if you’re not careful it could end up costing you.

Here are some tips to help your business get through the holiday season:

1) Stay on top of your inventory

  • Inventory management is key during the busy seasons. Holiday shoppers are in a rush to cross off their To-Do list. They won’t wait around for you to build up your inventory if what they want is out of stock. There are plenty of other businesses that would be all too happy to accommodate them should your products be unavailable, so be sure to check your stocks regularly to make sure you don’t run out of anything. Plan ahead and order/print more of your retail items in advance.

2) Keep Your Product Displays Neat & Organized

  • There’s nothing worse than trying to dig through a chaotic mess with 10 other people in your personal space in a messy bin at a store. Some customers take one look at the disorderly retail and give up without a try. By keeping your products organized and tidy looking, the overall appearance of your business will be more inviting, less stressful and customers will feel more comfortable taking the time to look for what they want.

3) Make Yourself Available

  • This is a tough one since it’s typically the busiest time of the year, and as the business owner/manager you are probably drowning in work. Paperwork will wait though, a customer will not. Making yourself and other associates available to assist customers with questions, purchases or orders will give you a better chance of increasing your sales. Most people are in a rush, so if you wait too long to return customer messages it could cost you their business.

4) Offer Sales & Holiday Specials

  • Tis the season… to spend, spend, spend! That doesn’t mean people are eager to throw their money away. We all still want the most bang for our buck, and everyone’s looking for the best holiday deals. If you aren’t promoting some kind of sale this holiday season then you’re going to have a tough time going against the competition, because I guarantee you they are marketing their own discounted deals and promotions.
