Around a year ago I was given the information that Omniprint International we going to be selling our own high quality heat transfer vinyl. Being tasked with offering the best product at the best pricing I thought it would be a walk in the park. Its vinyl, cut it out and then press it on no problem. Fast forward 6 months to me with hundreds of yards of randomly cut vinyl. I could tell that the vinyl was really high quality but my consistency and confidence were not to the standards of how Omniprint operates. We worked with a lot of different cutters and I took on the perspective of a customer and what was available for me to learn the machine and become a master cutter. This was my biggest issue, I was working with a few machines that showed me how to turn it on and install software, if any. The rest had been trial and error, lots of error. I had learned a lot by now and had made some great looking samples but I just had this deep down feeling it could be better and that’s not what we do.
Things clicked for me when my next test product arrived, they had complimented us on how great of quality our vinyl was and would be a breeze with the cutter I now had. The Cutter was the Graphtec CE6000-60 with a stand included and not an add on product. I was told to watch the DVD and call if I had any other questions. All I can say is wow! After going along step by step I could feel my smile grow by the minute. Very quickly I had the drivers and software installed. The nice thing is you can use the Graphtec Studio software to do anything. I am an Adobe fan and a plug in was included for Illustrator and Corel Draw. I can do something in Ai and then send it to the cutter, the software imports my image and then the real magic happens. The Graphtec software is always talking to the cutter, so when I place a roll of vinyl or sheet into the cutter the software shows me my real time cut area. You can add columns and rows to maximize the amount of vinyl used and you can move the columns and rows to squeak in as much possible. It is always good to test the blade force before you start and it is very simple. By doing so my very first cut was perfect. After about an hour all my hard work had become total confidence and pride. By far our Direct-Cut Vinyl and the Graphtec Cutter are the ultimate combo. If I had started out with this I would have been confident and ready in a few days’ time. But I am glad I had to take that road for you and getting into vinyl heat transfer should be an easy and profitable step. This is a great way to get into garment decoration or add on to DTG and screen printing.
